SAT 2025 Overview

The SAT, administered by the College Board since 1926, is a key test for students seeking undergraduate admission in the US and Canada. Now digital, it assesses reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning skills essential for college success.

Originally the Scholastic Aptitude Test, it’s used for admissions and scholarships. SAT Subject Tests were discontinued in 2021.

SAT Exam Structure

The SAT focuses on two areas:

• Reading and Writing
• Mathematics

It uses Multistage Adaptive Testing (MST) with two modules per section:

• Module 1: Mixed difficulty questions.
• Module 2: Adaptive difficulty based on Module 1 performance.

SAT Test Format Breakdown

Starts with Reading and Writing, followed by a 10-minute break, then Math. Total score: 400–1600.

Notes:

• Passport required on test day, not for registration.
• Register 15 days prior; early registration advised.
• Bring own device or request one 30 days prior.
• Four free score reports; additional reports $14 each.
