What is the GRE?

The GRE (Graduate Record Examinations), managed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), is a globally recognized entrance exam for postgraduate programs, including master’s, business, and law degrees. In Nepal, students take the GRE for admission to universities in the USA, UK, and over 150 countries.

Accepted by more than 1,000 institutions, GRE scores, combined with academic records, help universities select candidates for advanced programs and fellowships.

Types of GRE Tests in Nepal

The GRE offers two main exam types:

• GRE General Test
• GRE Subject Test

GRE General Test – At a Test Center

The GRE General Test is designed for students applying to master’s, doctoral, or law programs abroad. It assesses:

• Verbal Reasoning
• Quantitative Reasoning
• Analytical Writing
• Critical Thinking

This computer-based test evaluates skills developed through education, not tied to a specific subject. It’s offered at official ETS test centers in Nepal.

GRE General Test – At Home Option

The GRE General Test at Home offers the same format as the in-center test but is taken remotely with live proctoring. It’s available any day, any hour, providing flexibility.

Requirements:

• Computer Setup: Laptop/desktop (no tablets/phones), Windows 10/8 or macOS 10.5+, single monitor, ETS Secure Test Browser.
• Audio and Visual: Speakers (no headphones), external microphone, 360° view camera.
• Test Environment: Private room, no public spaces, standard chair and table, no food/drinks, visible ears (no jewelry/headbands).

GRE Registration in Nepal

Nepali students can register via:

• Online through an ETS account

Online Registration Steps:

1. Create an ETS account.
2. Log in with your credentials.
3. Choose a test center and date.
4. Confirm your email.
5. Select a test time and complete payment.

You’ll receive a confirmation email with test details. Scores are available via your ETS account.
